Tschick

Tschick, Wolfgang Herrndorf’s young adult novel, tells the story of the outsiders Maik Klingenberg and Tschick and has been highly successful in more than 25 countries since its publication in 2010. The stage adaptation became one of the most frequently performed plays in Germany.

The story is a road movie about courage, friendship, and overcoming loneliness. It focuses on school, first love, and an adventurous journey in a stolen Lada Niva, which Tschick claims will take them to his grandfather in Wallachia.

In 2017, Theater Hagen premiered a successful music theatre adaptation composed by Ludger Vollmer. The work is now performed at many opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera. For the Rostock production, director Matthias Piro returns to Volkstheater Rostock with his team after gaining widespread recognition with his debut production, Die Winterreise.
